Bring Layers
In April, Blowing Rock temperatures often range from the mid-40s in the mornings to the 60s or even low 70s during the day. Early mornings and late nights can still feel chilly, especially in the mountains.
For most spring weekends, it is a good idea to pack in layers; think:
- T-shirts and lighter tops for warmer afternoons
- Sweatshirts or sweaters for cool mornings
- A light jacket for evenings
- Jeans, leggings, or comfortable pants
- One or two short-sleeve outfits in case temperatures warm up more than expected
Do Not Forget
- A rain jacket
Spring in Blowing Rock can bring passing rain showers, especially in these months.
A lightweight rain jacket or windbreaker can make a huge difference if you are spending time downtown, hiking, or exploring the parkway. Umbrellas are helpful too, but a jacket is easier if you plan to be outside for longer periods of time. Blowing Rock averages more than 15 rainy days between April and May, so it is always smart to be prepared.
- Comfortable Shoes
Blowing Rock weekends often involve a lot of walking.
Between strolling through downtown shops, exploring overlooks on the Blue Ridge Parkway, or spending time outdoors, comfortable shoes are one of the most important things to pack.
Sneakers, casual boots, or supportive sandals for warmer days are all great options.
- An Outdoor Bag
Even if you are not planning a full hiking trip, you will probably end up outside more than you expect.
Many guests spend part of their weekend visiting scenic spots like Moses H. Cone Memorial Park, walking around Downtown Blowing Rock, or enjoying sunset views along the parkway.
A small day bag, sunglasses, sunscreen, and a reusable water bottle can all come in handy.
Leave a Little Extra Room in Your Bag
One thing many visitors forget is that they almost always end up shopping.
Between local boutiques, mountain gift shops, candles, coffee, and seasonal home décor, Blowing Rock is the kind of place where it is easy to leave with a few extra things.
Packing a little extra room in your suitcase can save you from trying to squeeze everything in on the drive home.
